Our top Charleston vacation rental booking tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- On Broad Street! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
