Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing yourrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. ?Glamorously renovated downtown home ? Parking + Yard has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
