How to book the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, shift your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. ?Glamorously renovated downtown home ? Parking + Yard has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
