Our top Charleston vacation rental tips:
Getting the best value:
- To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. ?Glamorously renovated downtown home ? Parking + Yard has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
