Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:

  • To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Charming 2-bedroom West Ashley home in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
