Our top Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the best rental in Charleston:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Charming 2-bedroom West Ashley home in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your group.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
