Tips to get the optimal Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Charming 2-bedroom West Ashley home in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
