Strategies for getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose your Charleston area rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. NEW Waterfront Charleston Home! 10 mins from the Beach & Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
