Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Villa 1111 Hot Tub & Community Pool! Great Views! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
