How to get the best Isle of Palms rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Ocean Views, Screened-In Porch, Steps Away From Beach And Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
