Tricks and tips to get the perfect Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in Isle of Palms. Booking in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Ocean Views, Screened-In Porch, Steps Away From Beach And Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
