Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Southern Shangri-La C
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your family.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
