Our top Rental home booking tips:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the best rental in Charleston:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Bohemian Haven in CHS has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
