Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Cozy 2BR Home - Riverland Terrace - Beach\/Downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
