Strategies to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best rental:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Cozy Townhouse in heart of West Ashley has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
