How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. King 583 - Charleston - 2 Bedroom Standard has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
