Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Close to Hampton Park: Casa Luna has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
