Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. SUNSET (3BR) Best of Charleston Award has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
