Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. SUNSET (3BR) Best of Charleston Award has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
