How to find the best Charleston vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- First, have your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Most Unique High-End Luxury Rental w\/Private Pool On Folly Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
