Tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect vacation home:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Beautiful Renovated Apartment One Block from King! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
