dining areas, fire pits, and covered barbecues.

This is not a typical short-term rental; it is not a refreshed “dependency” or a freshly constructed unit in an old neighborhood, nor is it located on a tiny lot in a questionable or remote area. The old wood floors, tall ceilings, standing seam copper roof, copper guttering, original moldings, plasterwork, old glass windows, and solid panel doors exude a special warmth, character, and charm that that is very difficult to achieve in new construction. It's the real deal!

Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking the right Charleston area rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 8D at StPhilipSquare, One Block to King Street has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
