Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Madison- Historic Charleston Single House with Double Porches & Roof Deck has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
