Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Madison- Historic Charleston Single House with Double Porches & Roof Deck has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If not, contact the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
