Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- To get the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. PERFECT LOCATION...PARK, RELAX, & WALK! MIDDLE OF THE FRENCH QUARTER! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
