Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Newly Renovated & Modern! Wonderful Ocean Views and 1 Block to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
