Vacation rental booking tips:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Newly Renovated & Modern! Wonderful Ocean Views and 1 Block to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
