Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. St. Michael's Place Retreat has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
