Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Downtown near King St - 4BR\/2BA has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
