Our top Rental booking tips:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Rutledge Ave - Renovated 2 Bed Home - Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
