Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Rutledge Ave - Renovated 2 Bed Home - Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
