Getting the best vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 3 Bedroom Upstairs Unit - 3 Blocks to King Street has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
