Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. THE INNS 6BR Downtown Home! Perfect for Groups! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
