Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Downtown Condo 1 Block to King with Balcony has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
