Our top Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 3rd Floor Oceanfront Condo!! Community Pool & Pier w\/ 1000 ft fishing pier! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
