Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group select dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Upscale Historic Suite 3 Blocks from King Street! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
