Strategies to get the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Stylish Getaway in Downtown Charleston has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
