Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the perfectvacation home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Neptune: Lofted Charm, Your Serene Escape has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
