Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Neptune: Lofted Charm, Your Serene Escape has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
