Tips to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the right Charleston area rental home:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn in the heart of Charleston! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
