Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Lodge Alley Inn in the heart of Charleston! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
