Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose the best Charleston area rental:

  • Select vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn in the heart of Charleston! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.

Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
