Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the right Charleston area rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 2-story downtown Charleston house with balcony, washer\/dryer, central AC, WiFi has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
