How to find the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. The Julep Suite At Morrison Manor On Third Floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
