Our top Rental booking tips:
Sticking to your budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. The Condon Carriage
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
