Our top Charleston area rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. The Carriage House at 68 Broad has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
