Tips for getting the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfect Charleston area rental:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 15 Lake Village Lane by AvantStay
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you long to visit, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
