How to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Booking in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking your prefectrental:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Golf Course & Lagoon Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
