Our top Charleston vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Historic and Bright 2-BR Apt Downtown has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
