Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Downtown Chic Cottage Retreat - King Street! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
