Our top Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Pinkadilly on Spring, in the heart of downtown, steps to King St, deck & bikes has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
