Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Sand Dune by AvantStay
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
