Finding the best Charleston area rental home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

How to choose the best rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Charming Classic Beach Home w\/Private Pool, Chair Lift, Dog Friendly & 2 Master Suites! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
