How to get the best rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Renovated, Charming 3 BR Villa in WD, Golf Cart Included, & Short walk to Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
