Our top Rental home tips:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To book the largest rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
