Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect rental home in Charleston:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. ‘Pacific Blue’ – Historic Home 5 mins to King St. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
