Booking the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Downtown Duplex - Rutledge Avenue - Sleeps 12 has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
