Finding the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your family commit to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront townhome, completely renovated w\/ screened porch & community pool - 33 Beach Club has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area destination you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
