Tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental in Isle of Palms:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Modern Beach Home w\/Private Pool, 3 Master Suites & Short Walk to Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
