Vacation rental home tips:
Get the most from your budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Oceanfront View + Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
