Our top Charleston area rental booking tips:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Downtown Home with Piazza, Yard + FREE Parking has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
