Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston area rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental home in Charleston:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Charleston Carriage Home - King Street - Parking! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
