Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Modern Studio Apartment in Historic Building on Broad Street has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
