Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- First, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Modern Studio Apartment in Historic Building on Broad Street has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
