Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Charming Downtown 1 BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
