Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Charming Downtown 1 BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
