Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Charming Downtown 1 BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
